The New York City Horror Film Festival kicks off with a huge industry party at one of New York City’s premiere hot spots, followed by four days of sell out film screenings, celebrity appearances and incredible panel discussions. Each year, our mission remains the same…to celebrate horror films and the hard working filmmakers who create them. We have found that the independent film community nationwide, be it festivals, film websites, or even some of the most popular indie magazines, tend to shy away from these low budgeted horror films, which is really a shame. Our philosophy is that the independent horror film is as important as any genre. In fact, many great Hollywood directors started out making low budget horror films. Some of the most influential filmmakers in this category include: Francis Ford Coppola (The Godfather), Oliver Stone (Platoon), Sam Raimi (Spiderman), Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) Wes Craven (Scream). We feel that the horror film may just be more important for the future of film making than any other genre out there!
For almost ten years, the New York City Horror Film Festival has stood alone as the America’s top genre film festival. The festival prides itself on discovering the new blood in the industry while tipping our hat to the master that made this genre so special!
With film screenings, celebrity appearances, a filmmaker’s discussion panel and a huge gala opening night kickoff party, we know this event is one that should not be missed and will draw crowds from all over the country, if not the world!
The New York City Horror Film Festival is widely thought of as the top horror film event of the year. We have gained praise and support for some of the industries most important and influential filmmakers and publications.
